The Department of Radiology at Fletcher Allen/University of Vermont (UVM) offers a program with nationally renowned specialists utilizing cutting-edge technologies to advance the science of radiology. In this university hospital setting, you will work in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams using the latest diagnostic and therapeutic options, and applying medical research breakthroughs to provide exceptional patient care. Set in Burlington, Vermont, this dynamic learning environment allows for a challenging, productive, and enjoyable training experience.

Fletcher Allen /UVM offers intensive, ACGME-certified residency and fellowship programs staffed by 39 board-certified radiologists. We provide a challenging and inspiring academic setting, an outstanding training program with a knowledgeable team of attending physicians, and a relaxed, supportive learning environment with solid camaraderie among peers. Because Fletcher Allen/UVM is the only tertiary center serving an area that includes one million people, you will gain experience from a diverse spectrum of disease processes.

As a resident, you will experience learning in our state-of-the-art conferencing center with dual stream videoconferencing capabilities (where we videoconference the New England Roentgen Ray Society meetings). Hands-on and electronic educational resources abound. There are two conferences per day dedicated to the radiology residents, a weekly educational conference run by the senior residents for the residents, and many more multidisciplinary conferences each week. While emphasizing resident education, the program also addresses ease of practice and quality of life issues, including:

  • Night float system
  • Workstation in the call room for ease of access
  • Educational fund
  • Funded expenses for meetings
  • Funded Board Review courses
  • A newly renovated resident room with multimedia capabilities (including plasma TV)
  • Resident-only exercise facility on-site
  • Credit plan for meals and coffee kiosk
  • Departmental social activities

As a resident at Fletcher Allen/UVM, you will be part of a team that is at the forefront of the field. The department is filmless and paperless, with voice-recognition software, and possesses the latest state-of-the-art technology in every major imaging modality including:

  • 64 and 40-slice CT
  • High Field Open MRI
  • 3.0T and 1.5T MRI
  • 3.0T research magnet
  • SPECT-CT and PET-CT
  • Two biplane angiography suites
  • Digital Mammography and a robust breast biopsy service

We also serve as a luminary and beta site for world-renowned companies, testing the newest state-of-the-art equipment and helping them develop new technologies. In short, as a radiology resident here, you will train on the most sophisticated equipment in the world and be right in the middle of the action as we help pioneer tomorrow’s technologies.
